USS COMSTOCK, At Sea (Jan. 21, 2017) U.S. Navy Cmdr. Gervy Alota, the captain of the USS Comstock (LSD 45), fires an M110 Semi-Automatic Sniper System during a sniper and machine gun shoot conducted by the Maritime Raid Force, 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), aboard the Comstock while afloat at sea, Jan. 21. The M110 SASS is a rifle capable of effectively engaging targets out to 800 meters. The Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group and 11th MEU provide U.S. Naval Forces Central Command with a flexible, sea-based military force, readily available to respond to emerging crises and support a wide-range of military operations.
