USS COMSTOCK, At Sea (Jan. 21, 2017) U.S. Marines with the Maritime Raid Force, 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), sight in on floating targets with an M240B medium machinegun during a ”deck shoot” conducted aboard the USS Comstock (LSD 45) while afloat at sea, Jan. 21. The M240B can be mounted and used to provide suppressive fire on opposed vessels during maritime interdiction operations. The Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group and 11th MEU are operating in the U.S. 5th Fleet area of responsibility in support of maritime security operations, crisis response, and theater security cooperation efforts to ensure the free flow of commerce, freedom of navigation and regional security.
