Marine Corps Poolee Jonah Carlin, guide for Recruiting Sub-Station Gresham and a student of Mt. Hood Community College, stands at the peak of Angel's Rest Hiking Trail, Portland, March 18, 2017. The poolees climbed 1,450 feet in elevation to the peak of the trail as a way to prepare for the physical demands of Marine Corps Recruit Training. Carlin said he joined the Marine Corps for a sense of brotherhood and belonging. "When I went to talk to a recruiter, they just felt so proud and I felt like the Marines would be the right choice for me. I will be proud to be a Marine, too," said Carlin.
