Lance Cpl. Chance Mixon, 26, a dog handler from Bridgeport, Texas, uses hand signals to direct his improvised explosive device detection dog to begin searching for a training aid containing homemade explosive residue during Enhanced Mojave Viper. Dog handlers with 1st Combat Engineer Battalion participated in a three-day training exercise, putting their dogs in different situations and environments to help prepare them for a deployment to Afghanistan. Enhanced Mojave Viper is the Marine Corps’ desert warfare training program used to prepare Marines for tours in Afghanistan.
