Cpl. Chuck Marion, 23, a dog handler from Syracuse, N.Y., uses whistle commands to instruct his improvised explosive device detection dog to clear a building during Enhanced Mojave Viper. Dog handlers with 1st Combat Engineer Battalion participated in a three-day exercise, putting their dogs in different situations and environments including an urban environment which gave Marines a chance to practice room clearing techniques. Enhanced Mojave Viper is the Marine Corps’ desert warfare training program used to prepare Marines for tours in Afghanistan.
