A military personnel in camouflage uniform is working on a green military pontoon bridge or floating platform on a body of water. The structure appears to be a modular military bridging system, partially assembled and floating near a rocky, vegetated shoreline. A Soldier with the 1041st Engineer Company, Wyoming Army National Guard, works to dismantle an Improved Ribbon Bridge, or IRB, July 21, at the Guernsey Reservoir, in Wyoming. The Soldiers work under the supervision of civilian instructors from AM General, the bridge’s manufacturer, during the initial training and fielding process. The IRB replaces the Standard Ribbon Bridge, developed in the 1970s. The bridge, which can be turned into a raft, can carry a heavy equipment transport loaded with an M1A2 Abrams tank. The 1041st is based in armories in the Wyoming cities of Rock Springs, Evanston and Afton.
