As well as qualifications in field wiring, Lance Cpl. Nicole K. Estrada, a 20-year-old Rancho Cucamonga, Calif. native, is also qualified to operate the 50 caliber machine gun. Seen here, Estrada stands atop a humvee just moments after shedding the top half of her gunner suit, a full body suit used as added protection for exposed humvee gunners. "It's a real honor to do, out of the whole company I am the first female to actually go out as fifty cal gunner," said Estrada, "having to be out there for three or four hours in the gun-suit (is) very fatiguing." Estrada is one of many Marines with the Wire Platoon, Communications Company, 1st Marine Logistics Group (Fwd), who have been responsible for the task of installing a more reliable multi-network communications system in support of 1st Iraqi Army Division.
