A recruit from Echo Company, 2nd Recruit Training Battalion, gives a loud war cry before battling during pugil sticks at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, Aug. 10. Recruits were encouraged to use any practiced technique necessary to overcome their opponent during their single match. Annually, more than 17,000 males recruited from the Western Recruiting Region are trained at MCRD San Diego. Echo Company is scheduled to graduate Oct. 21.
