MARINE CORPS BASE HAWAII – Kahu Sherman Thompson (left), a Hawaiian minister, and a Honolulu native, performs a traditional blessing of the area for the Wave Energy Test Site near the French Battery bunker aboard Marine Corps Base Hawaii, July 26, 2016. Thompson recited a Hawaiian prayer and blessed the area to protect the Wave Energy Conversions devices off shore and the staff that work on them. The WEC devices harness the energy from the oceans waves, an abundant and renewable energy. The WEC devices near the base are currently in the prototype stage, but with more research and development can help provide electricity to impoverished coastal cities and military installations.
