New York Army National Guard Brig. Gen. Raymond F. The live fire exercise is completed in three phases: training exercise, company exercise and live fire, and challenges the commander to simultaneously complete two separate objectives while maintaining command and control of the battlefield. Approximately 3,000 Soldiers from New York joined 2,000 other state Army National Guard units, active Army and Army Reserve troops as part of the 27th Infantry Brigade Combat Team task force.
