PHILIPPINE SEA (June 15, 2016) – Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) Ensign Aya Kawano, assigned to the JMSDF Hyuga-class helicopter destroyer JS Hyuga (DDH-181), scans the waters using a pelorus on the bridge wing of the guided-missile cruiser USS Mobile Bay (CG 53) while conducting a search-and-rescue exercise during Exercise Malabar 2016. A trilateral maritime exercise, Malabar is designed to enhance dynamic cooperation between the Indian Navy, JMSDF and U.S. Navy forces in the Indo-Asia-Pacific.
