During the closing ceremony for Summer Shield XIII, Col. Martins Liberts (right), land force commander, Latvian army, presents a plaque to Spc. Paul Kariuki, a combat medic assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Troop, 3rd Squadron, 2nd Cavalry Regiment, because he was chosen as one of the unit’s best soldiers throughout the exercise, April 29, at Adazi Military Base, Latvia. Soldiers from Latvia, Canada, Germany, Lithuania and the U.S. have been conducting a variety of training together during Summer Shield XIII, an annual two-week long interoperability training event in Latvia.
