Amphibious Assault Vehicles with 3rd Assault Amphibian Battalion, 1st Marine Division, prepare to board the USS Somerset (LPD 25) off the coast of Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, Calif., Feb. 20, 2016, in preparation for the culminating training event of Exercise Iron Fist 2016. The event is a scenario-based, bilateral amphibious assault, between the U.S. Marine Corps and Japan Ground Self-Defense Force, launched from the USS Somerset in coordination with inland airborne troop movements aboard Camp Pendleton.
