BAGHDAD, Sgt. Cynthia Espinoza, a native of New York and a heavy equipment operator with Company A, 62nd Engineer Battalion, 16th Engineer Brigade, Multi-National Division, Baghdad, uses her bucket loader to add rocks to shore up hesco barriers on Joint Patrol Base Lions Den, southwest of Baghdad, June 12. Other upgrades made to the base since January include road construction, digging up septic tanks and making ditches for new plumbing, and setting up a gravel lot as an Iraqi army motor pool. Engineers making improvements to the base have frequently opted to work long hours at night to escape the excessive 100-degree-plus heat of the day. Both MND-B Soldiers and their IA counterparts live on the base, which will eventually be handed over to the IA.
