U.S. Air Force Airmen from the 340th Expeditionary Air Refueling Squadron, refuel an E-3 Sentry, Airborne Warning and Control System aircraft, Jan.15, 2010, over Afghanistan. The AWACS is an airborne radar system designed to detect and manage aircraft. The E-3 is used at high altitude and can distinguish between friendly and hostile aircraft from hundreds of miles away.
