U.S. Air Force Airmen from the 340th Expeditionary Air Refueling Squadron, refuel an E-3 Sentry, Airborne Warning and Control System aircraft, Jan.15, over Afghanistan. The AWACS is an airborne radar system designed to detect and manage aircraft. The weapon system is used at high altitude and can distinguish between friendly and hostile aircraft from hundreds miles away.
