Army Staff Sgt. Darren Lael plays Shostakovich Piano Concerto #2 firs movement on the piano during a performance by the U.S. Army Field Band at the 69th Annual Midwest Clinic International Band, Orchestra and Music Conference held at the McCormick Place West in Chicago, Dec. 16. All Army band members go through basic training and then experience a rigorous audition before being hand-selected to join the U.S. Army Field Band in the Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) 42-Sierra (Army Musician). There are 60 members in the band and 29 chorus members.
