During a Sept. 29, 2015, meeting at the Japan Ministry of Defense near Tokyo, senior leaders from the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force Reserve Component (left) and the U.S. Army Reserve Engagement Team-Japan (right) exchange ideas on how to encourage their respective commands to train together on a more frequent and engaged level. The leaders proposed integrating Japanese service members in a two-week civil affairs course hosted by U.S. Army Japan, enrolling JGSDF interpreters in a language-exchange immersion class led by native Spanish speakers assigned to Camp Zama, and developing the first formal private-public partnership program to connect U.S. Army Reserve and the JGSDF Reserve Component service members with civilian employers based in Japan.
