During a Sept. 29, 2015, meeting at the Japan Ministry of Defense near Tokyo, Japan Ground Self-Defense Force Col. Kei Hasegawa (left), chief, JGSDF Reserve Personnel Office, and Army Col. Timothy M. Snyder (right), director, U.S. Army Reserve Engagement Team-Japan, exchange ideas on how to encourage their respective commands to train together on a more frequent and intimate basis. Snyder, whose distinguished military career includes several assignments throughout the Pacific, proposed that their respective commands collaborate on creating the first formal private-public partnership program to connect U.S. Army Reserve and the JGSDF Reserve Component service members with major civilian employers based in Japan.
