U.S. Marine Corps senior leaders from both Marine Corps Installations East and Marine Corps Air Station New River (MCAS New River), render a salute as an aircraft carrying Adm. Katsutoshi Kawano, chief of staff, Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force, and his senior military officials arrive at MCAS New River, during a visit to the United States of America from July 11-18, 2015, on July 14, 2015. Japan recently upgraded their air and amphibious capabilities, and this visit provides Kawano with a deeper understanding of the application and capability of the new equipment his forces will be using; in turn enhancing the interoperability and effectiveness as an alliance during contingency.
