US Coast Guard Art Program 2015 Collection, 'Ice Liberty' [Image 18 of 28]
In this work from the U.S. Coast Guard Art Program 2015 Collection, “Ice Liberty,” ID# 201518, the crew of the USCGC Sturgeon Bay (WTGB 109) steps off the ship and onto the frozen Hudson River near Poughkeepsie, N.Y. The Coast Guard conducts ice breaking on the river to facilitate the safe transport of heating oil and other vital supplies to consumers throughout the Northeastern United States during harsh winter months. Ice liberty was granted upon completion of duties to permit the crew time to play such games as soccer or simply relax. (U.S. Coast Guard Art Program work by Lt. Ken Sauerbrunn)
