U.S. Air Force F-16 Fighting Falcon aircraft assigned to the 113th Wing, District of Columbia Air National Guard, wait to take off from Eielson Air Force Base, Alaska, April 27, 2015, to participate in a Distant Frontier mission with F-16 pilots and aircraft assigned to Eielson's 18th Aggressor Squadron. Distant Frontier provided the deployed pilots an opportunity to fly orientation flights in the more than 67,000 square-mile Joint Pacific Alaska Range Complex, become familiar with local flying restrictions, receive local safety and survival briefings, and develop orientation plans during the week prior to Red Flag-Alaska 15-2, a Pacific Air Forces-directed field training exercise flown under simulated air combat conditions to increases combat capability.
