Spc. Alexander Whitehurst, a native of Brooklyn, New York, crawls out from a sandpit during an obstacle course relay with Latvian soldiers at the Latvian National Guard's annual sports competition in Augstkalne, Latvia, July 19. Combined teams of paratroopers with the 1st Squadron, 91st Cavalry Regiment, 173rd Airborne Brigade and Latvian soldiers with the 2nd Infantry Battalion participated in competitions such as basketball, obstacle course relays, orienteering courses, marksmanship and strongman. Approximately 600 paratroopers from the 173rd Airborne are deployed throughout Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland as part of Operation Atlantic Resolve to demonstrate commitment to NATO obligations and sustain interoperability with allied forces.
