Spc. Alexander Whitehurst, a native of Brooklyn, N.Y., carries weighted ammunition cans during an obstacle course relay with Latvian soldiers at the Latvian National Guard's annual sports competition in Augstkalne, Latvia July 19. Combined teams of paratroopers with 1st Squadron, 91st Cavalry Regiment, 173rd Airborne Brigade and Latvian soldiers with the 2nd Infantry Battalion participated in competitions throughout the day, such as basketball, obstacle course relays, orienteering courses, marksmanship and feats-of-strength. Approximately 600 paratroopers from the 173rd Airborne are deployed throughout Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland as part of Operation Atlantic Resolve to demonstrate commitment to NATO obligations and sustain interoperability with allied forces.
