MARINE CORPS TRAINING AREA BELLOWS, Hawaii – An Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) drone breaks apart upon impact in a controlled crash to reduce damage to the machine when it lands. The UAS, or Raven, is made up of eight detachable components, and upon landing explodes in order to soften the crash. The Raven is part of the Marine Corps Advanced Warfighting Experiment, a culmination of progressive experiments designed to test potential future technologies, solutions and concepts to future Marine Air Ground Task Force challenges.
