MARINE CORPS TRAINING AREA BELLOWS, Hawaii – Lance Cpl. Levi Johnson, an intelligence specialist with Headquarters Battery, 1st Battalion, 12th Marine Regiment, and a 20-year-old native of Springdale, Ark., holds the Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) drone while its rotor is tested, July 12, at Marine Corps Training Area Bellows for the Marine Corps Advanced Warfighting Experiment. The UAS is a lightweight drone that provides overwatch of friendly and enemy forces, can take photos and relay information and is controlled with a handheld controller with a viewfinder. AWE is a culmination of progressive experiments designed to test potential future technologies, solutions and concepts to future Marine Air Ground Task Force challenges.
