An oil painting depicting two workers in blue coveralls and yellow hard hats performing what appears to be chipping or scaling work on a metal surface aboard a vessel at sea. The foreground worker is using a pneumatic or hydraulic chipping tool against a heavily corroded or encrusted surface, with debris flying outward. The ocean is visible in the background, confirming a maritime work setting.

In this work from the U.S. Coast Guard Art Program 2014 Collection, "Buoy Maintenance‚" ID# 201422, an aids to navigation technician aboard the buoy tender USCGC Cowslip (WLB 277) uses an acetylene torch on a retrieved buoy while another service member holds his vest to provide safety. The activity in this painting, which is based on an old photo, by current standards would warrant more protective clothing. (U.S. Coast Guard Art Program 2014 Collection work by Mara Sfara)
