In this work from the U.S. Coast Guard Art Program 2014 Collection, "Christmas Ship‚" ID# 201410, crew members with the USCGC Mackinaw (WLBB 30) unload Christmas trees at the Navy Pier in Chicago. The crew brought the trees from Northern Michigan for distribution to underprivileged families in the area. The practice of bringing trees by boat to Chicago was started by owners of the Rouse Simmons, the original Christmas ship, in the late 1800s. U.S. Coast Guard Art Program work by Sandra Hart.
