Petty Officer 2nd Class Jason Vaughn, an aviation maintenance technician at Coast Guard Air Station Sitka conducts non-destructive inspection testing, on an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter, Sept. 25, 2013. Vaughn recently completed this important training and he is now the primary technician at the air station capable of testing aircraft for any metal deficiencies such as corrosion or cracks that can't be seen with the naked eye. This is done using a machine that sends a magnetic field through the metal itself. This type of maintenance is important to assure the highest level of safety in maintaining the airworthiness of aircraft that face frequent mission stress as they encounter high winds and inclimate weather.
