Sgt. 1st Class Jennifer Akoa, a retirement services noncommissioned officer in charge for Joint Force Headquarters, Maine Army National Guard, nears the finish line of the Eastern Region Biathlon Races in Jericho, Vt. Akoa and her teammates competed in two qualifying events. The first event took place Friday morning and tested their endurance, stamina, and accuracy as they shot at 50 meter targets spaced out in a challenging 7.5 km or 10 km cross country ski race. This is the second time since 1990 that Maine has been able to send a team to Vermont for this event, and they hope to continue to train to send more in the future.
