Capt. Richard McAroy closes a surgical incision on a local dog in Kotzebue, Alaska, as part of Innovative Readiness Training Arctic Care 2013. The service members provide services in remote locations to under-served populations in northern part of Alaska as well as teaching local students about veterinary care. McAroy, a veterinary service officer is currently serving the 109th Veterinary Detachment from Garden Grove, Calif., trains other medical service members on veterinary techniques to broaden their skills and experience. Arctic Care is a multi-service humanitarian and training program focusing on enhancing the interoperability and capacity of U.S. forces in peacetime support operations, humanitarian assistance and disaster relief.
