    Brian Kirkpatrick (far left), a combat engineer attached to the "C" Company, 1st Battalion, 8th Marines, 24th Marine Amphibious Unit, sits with Marines from his squad during peacekeeping operations in Beirut, Lebanon, in 1983. Kirkpatrick is a survivor of the 1983 Marine Barracks bombing in Beirut, Lebanon. On Oct. 23,1983, a suicide bomber driving a truck rammed into the barracks with 12,000 pounds of high explosives detonating one of the largest non-nuclear bombings in history.
