Kirkpatrick is a survivor of the 1983 Marine Barracks bombing in Beirut, Lebanon. On Oct. 23,1983, a suicide bomber driving a truck rammed into the barracks with 12,000 pounds of high explosives detonating one of the largest non-nuclear bombings in history.
