Lance Cpl. Jeff J. Simpson strains to get the right position to cut a truss Oct. 1 at an engineering civic assistance project at Taysan Elementary School, Legazpi City, Albay, Republic of the Philippines during Amphibious Landing Exercise 2014. Humanitarian and civic assistance projects such as this project offer unique opportunities to build interoperability between partner nations, while building capacity and sustainability for the future. Simpson is a combat engineer with Construction Platoon, Marine Wing Support Squadron 172, 1st Marine Aircraft Wing, which is currently part of 3d Marine Expeditionary Brigade, III Marine Expeditionary Force.
