Philippine Navy Seabees and U.S. Marine combat engineers lift a truss Oct. 1 during an engineering civic assistance project at Taysan Elementary School, Legazpi City, Albay, Republic of the Philippines. Working together, the service members lifted the 500-pound framework into position. The project is one of many humanitarian projects conducted during Amphibious Landing Exercise 2014. Humanitarian and civic assistance projects during PHIBLEX 14 offer unique opportunities to build interoperability between partner nations, while building capacity and sustainability for the future. The Seabees are with Naval Forces Southern Luzon, and the combat engineers are with Marine Wing Support Squadron 172, 1st Marine Aircraft Wing, which is currently part of 3d Marine Expeditionary Brigade, III Marine Expeditionary Force.
