Amistad (Spanish for “friendship”) is a 12th Air Force, Air Forces Southern (AFSOUTH)-led campaign of health security cooperation engagements. These missions integrate U.S. military medical personnel with partner-nation providers to deliver care, exchange expertise, and operate in real-world conditions that directly support readiness and regional stability. International Health Specialist teams will support missions in Paraguay and the Dominican Republic.
U.S. and Paraguayan leaders marked the conclusion of Amistad 2026 during a closing ceremony at the U.S. Embassy in Asunción, celebrating two weeks of combined medical care, professional exchange and partnership that expanded access to specialty health services while strengthening the enduring relationship between the two nations.
For most of the year, the San Ramón Family Health Unit serves approximately 4,600 residents with a single family medicine physician, providing primary care for everything from routine illnesses to chronic conditions. When patients require specialty services, they are often referred to larger facilities in the city, which can present challenges related to travel, appointment availability and cost.
