2014 marks the 41st annual meeting of the rivals Grambling
State University and Southern University. The Bayou Classic is a football
game commemorating academic achievement, tradition, sportsmanship, marching
bands and friendly competition.
This long-standing intrastate rivalry between the Southern Jaguars and
Grambling State Tigers is one of the more popular events in all of sports.
It is one of the most distinguishable sporting events in the African
American community and best-known game and rivalry in Historically Black
College and University Football.
The Marine Corps is proud to partner with the Bayou Classic and excited to
participated in the week-long historic event.
The United States Marine Corps presented two student-athletes from both Bayou Classic rivals Southern University and Grambling State University with the “Marine Corps Excellence in Leadership Award” Nov. 29, 2013.
