Dr. Bradley Sturm and Staff Sgt.’s Steve Elhajj and Bradley Thompson mark out grids of a possible crash site for recovery operations during a Joint POW/MIA Accounting Command mission. Sturm was assigned as the recovery leader and anthropologist and Elhajj and Thompson were assigned as recovery noncommissioned officers on a 16-member specialized recovery team for more than 45 days searching for the remains of nine service members whose plane crashed during World War II. The Joint POW/MIA Accounting Command conducts global search, recovery and laboratory operations to identify unaccounted-for Americans from past conflicts in order to support the Department of Defense's personnel accounting efforts.
