The Helmand provincial governor, Mohammad Gulab Mangal, announced May 29 that Gereshk would be included in the upcoming third phase of the regional security transition from coalition to Afghan security. Governor Mangal attributed the district's success to the efforts of security forces, government officials, and local civilians.
