SAN DIEGO— Commander, Naval Surface Force, U.S. Pacific Fleet (CNSP) recently hosted a Commander’s Training Symposium at Naval Amphibious Base Coronado, Aug. 27, bringing surface warfare commanders together to discuss warfighting perspectives from varying echelons of command, building warfighting team cohesion while learning in stride.
Drawing directly from recent combat operations and frontline tactical experience, the symposium focused on “passing the torch” from captains and warfare commanders in weapon engagement zones to those about to deploy. Leading innovation and opportunities from the front, the symposium enables the force to rapidly incorporate lessons learned and maintain tactical continuity across warfighting commands.
The conference was highly attended with leadership from more than 75 commands, participating in person and virtually across forward-deployed operational theaters.
“Our combat performance under sustained wartime pressure has been eye-watering. The captains, officers, chiefs and Sailors of our warships continue to prove a fundamental truth: surface forces have always been ready on arrival to fight and win,” said Vice Adm. Joe Cahill, commander of CNSP. “We are evolving at speed with a bias for action.”
The conference also established a renewed mandate for the surface warfare community: accelerate warfighting evolution, eliminate administrative distractions and reinforce mission command across all operational echelons. In Cahill’s words, "Start every conversation with, 'I intend to.'"
Surface force commander’s conferences unify warfighting expectations and coordinate force-wide actions across the foundations of a warship’s combat- readiness.
