What began as an accidental firearm discharge near Peshastin Pinnacles State Park resulted in a life saved, thanks to the quick thinking of Senior Airman Drew Davis, 446th Security Forces Squadron reservist, who also serves as a deputy for Chelan County.

Davis, Chelan County deputy, responded to a call at the 7500 block of U.S. Highway 2 around 9:12 p.m. on March 28 after a newly purchased handgun was accidentally fired while being inspected, injuring three people.

One victim suffered a leg injury with significant bleeding. Davis quickly applied a tourniquet at the scene, an action authorities said likely saved the victim’s life and prevented far more serious injuries.

Applying the tourniquet was muscle memory from all the times he’d had training with tourniquets, said Davis.

“Applying my training from the Tactical Combat Casualty Care courses I've taken in my military career and my civilian on the job training really helped in that situation,” he said. “The biggest thing is when you take these trainings stay focused, because you never know when you may need it.”

All three individuals were transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Davis, who at the time served with the Chelan County Sheriff’s Office for approximately 18 months, was commended for his rapid response and decisive life-saving actions.

“You never know when something like this is gonna happen. Complacency can get you hurt,” said Davis. “Especially in the military or law enforcement. Once you get complacent, you know, that's when bad things can happen. Stay ready so you don't have to get ready.”

Davis has served as a reservist with the 446th SFS for approximately five and a half years. As an instructor within the squadron, Davis trains fellow airmen in the safe and effective use of force, close-quarters combat, shoot-move-communicate tactics, and firearm safety, helping prepare them to respond confidently and professionally in high-pressure situations.

“Davis is willing to go above and beyond for anyone, no matter the rank. He always presents himself in a professional manner, and he's willing to do more than asked for, he's a tremendous asset, honestly,” said Tech. Sgt. Zachiryea Alcorn Elkhorn, 446th SFS noncommissioned officer in charge. “His experience on the outside, being a civilian cop, directly translates into our career field.”

The events that took place this month were not Davis’s first experience helping to save a life, said Alcorn. In December 2025, Davis recognized that a fellow service member was displaying stroke-like symptoms, while others initially believed the member was joking or laughing; Davis quickly identified that the situation was serious and required immediate medical attention. He promptly transported the member to Madigan Army Medical Center, notified the individual’s family, and remained by their side until family members arrived.

His quick thinking, situational awareness, and decisive actions played a critical role in ensuring the member received timely medical care, added Alcorn. This incident further reflects Davis’s commitment to the well-being of his fellow airmen at the 446th Airwing, the local community, and his ability to remain calm and effective during emergencies.
