INCIRLIK AIR BASE, Türkiye – The 39th Force Support Squadron Mortuary Affairs Office provides centralized support for the 39th Air Base Wing’s prioritization of its people by preparing our fallen service members and honoring those who have given their lives in the service of our country.
As the only Department of War Mortuary Affairs Office in Türkiye, the section is responsible for managing all mortuary operations across the region. The Mortuary Affairs Collection Point conducts sensitive operations from the initial receipt of remains through preparation for their return to their families. Each action follows established DoW procedures to maintain accountability, preserve identification integrity and ensure the proper handling of personal effects.
“Every detail of the process we do here reflects our commitment to maintaining the highest professional standards," said U.S. Air Force Chief Master Sgt. Abraham Walker, 39th FSS senior enlisted leader. "This program is sensitive in nature, but very necessary to properly honor our fallen heroes."
Leading these efforts is U.S. Air Force Tech. Sgt. Ericka Endara, 39th FSS readiness and mortuary affairs section chief. Under her stewardship, the section has strengthened its operational capabilities and improved facility readiness. She identified a critical infrastructure deficiency and secured $25,000 in U.S. Air Forces in Europe funding to replace an outdated refrigeration unit. The upgrade restored full functionality to the facility, reduced operating costs and ensured long-term reliability for future operations.
The office operates as a critical link between installation agencies, higher headquarters and families during casualty operations. Coordination includes transportation logistics, documentation and compliance with Air Force and joint-service mortuary regulations.
“This role requires attention to detail, compassion and adherence to established procedures,” Endara said. “Our mission is to uphold the standards of care for our fallen and ensure their families receive the respect and support they deserve.”
Through professionalism and meticulous care, the 39th FSS Mortuary Affairs Office ensures that every service member is treated with dignity and respect, reflecting the Air Force’s enduring commitment to taking care of Airmen and families.
