CAMP CASEY, Republic of Korea — Soldiers from across 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, gathered Sept. 18, 2025, for a drone tutorial sponsored by the 299th Brigade Engineer Battalion. The training focused on integrating small unmanned aerial systems (sUAS) into reconnaissance and operations across the brigade.
The event introduced Soldiers from multiple battalions to the latest drone platforms and provided hands-on instruction in flight operations, safety, and tactical applications. Leaders emphasized that expanding unmanned aerial system proficiency enhances battlefield awareness and provides a critical edge in reconnaissance and maneuver.
PV2 Rhett Hoff, a cannon crew member with 2nd Battalion, 12th Field Artillery Regiment, was selected to attend based on his technical aptitude and interest in aviation.
“I was chosen for this training by my first sergeant because of my background and enthusiasm for technology,” Hoff said. “I’ve been flying drones long before I joined the Army, and I’m excited to see how the Army is integrating them into our jobs. Being able to control a system like this as part of my work is fascinating, and I feel fortunate to have the opportunity to develop this skill.”
The training spoke to Raider Brigade’s commitment to broadening Soldiers’ technical expertise while strengthening unit readiness. By enabling Soldiers from diverse military occupational specialties to learn sUAS operations, the brigade builds redundancy, adaptability, and modernized combat effectiveness.
