    Story by Maj. Troy Goossen

    650th Regional Support Group

FORT HOOD, TX - Henderson Nevada native, and U.S. Army Reserve soldier, Pfc. Dewitt Dennis, a Unit Supply Specialist assigned to the 650th Regional Support Group, took some time to tell his story July 27, while waiting to fire his assigned weapon at the crew-served weapons ranges here. The unit was at Fort Hood for training in preparation for its deployment to CENTCOM.

Dennis is the older sibling to five sisters. His sister Cierra was inspired to join the Army Reserve when he did. They were able to attend basic training and advanced individual training together to become Unit Supply Specialists at separate units.

Part of being in the Army Reserve is holding a civilian career in addition to your military career, and Dennis serves his community as the overnight manager for a chain restaurant, where he supervises 2 employees. He said he has a great team and enjoys being able to jump in and help with all the tasks required to keep the store operating smoothly when they’re busy. He also prides himself on providing exceptional customer service and goes out of his way to compensate customers if they’re inconvenienced for any reason.

When he’s not working, Dennis has a few hobbies, including amateur boxing, playing video games, and watching anime. His favorite anime is Hajime no Ippo because the story of the main character training to become a professional boxer resonates with him on a personal level.

Soldiers usually set goals for their time away from home, and Dennis is no exception. He expressed optimism, explaining that he wants to have some fun, see new places, and learn more about his military occupational specialty, such as the differences between working in the U.S. vs. a deployed environment. He is also looking forward to saving some money so he can help his mom and dad back home if they need it.

When the unit returns from deployment, Dennis plans to resume his amateur boxing career and attend online college to study cybersecurity. He is currently looking into the American Public University system.

Dennis also had a message for his family: “I wanna say thank you for all your help, I love you very much. I want to thank my dad and my grandpa for influencing me to join the Army, to become a better person, and to make great life decisions.”

The 650th RSG is an Army Reserve brigade-level unit. The mission off the RSG is to deploy to provide base operation support with responsibilities for managing facilities, providing administrative support, and ensuring the security of personnel and equipment on a base camp.
