LAS VEGAS — The 1st Squadron 221st Cavalry held a change of command at the Clark County Armory earlier today.
Col. Troy Armstrong, Command Sgt. Maj. Dennis Basilio, family and friends were present to celebrate the occasion.
Lt. Col. Nicholas Chavez relinquished command of the 1st Squadron 221st Cavalry to Lt. Col. Phillip Gringrich.
Gringrich’s awards and decorations include the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Ranger Tab, the Parachutist Badge, the Bronze Star Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, and the Army Achievement Medal.
Maj. Eric Mangino and Sgt. Maj. Zell Johnson gifted Chavez with a framed plaque from the entire Squadron. It included some parting words for his outstanding leadership and loyal service to the all the Soldiers of 221.
