Naval Hospital Jacksonville’s laboratory has earned reaccreditation from the American Association of Blood Banks (AABB) and the College of American Pathologists (CAP) after a biennial inspection, in which zero deficiencies were noted.

“These results exemplify the hard work and dedication of our Laboratory Department and the strict procedural adherence required for blood bank operations,” said Capt. Teresa Allen, NH Jacksonville commander and Navy Medicine Readiness and Training Command Jacksonville commanding officer.

AABB’s accreditation program promotes the highest standard of care in all aspects of blood banking. CAP’s accreditation program fosters continuous improvement. The inspection covers 42 CAP common standards, 121 CAP transfusion standards, and AABB’s standards for blood banks and transfusion services.

“The blood bank is one of the most regulated areas in U.S. hospitals,” said Lt. Ashley Russell, NH Jacksonville’s Laboratory department head. “I applaud our team for maintaining the highest standards while executing the command’s mission on a daily basis.”

Naval Hospital Jacksonville and Navy Medicine Readiness and Training Command Jacksonville deliver health care and readiness. NH Jacksonville (which includes five branch health clinics across Florida and Georgia) serves 175,000 active duty, active duty family members, and retired service members, including 57,000 patients enrolled with a primary care manager. NMRTC Jacksonville (which includes five units across Florida and Georgia) ensures warfighters' medical readiness to deploy and clinicians' readiness to save lives.
