Indiana National Guard Lt. Col. Francis S. Johnson, the 38th Infantry Division resource management officer, received his new rank from Maj. Gen. Gordon L. Ellis, the division commanding general, during a promotion ceremony at Camp Arifjan, Kuwait, Aug. 29, 2019.
Johnson, an Alexandria resident from Indianapolis, has served 20 years in the military and 17 in the Indiana National Guard and currently serves Task Force Spartan in the Middle East.
More than 600 soldiers with the 38th Infantry Division, also known as the Cyclone Division, are on a 10-month long deployment in Kuwait to provide leadership, command, control and in-depth staff analysis for Operation Spartan Shield.
Johnson said he serves because of his sense of patriotism to state and nation.
"Since I was a child I wanted to be in uniform," said Johnson. "I am an Eagle Scout, and I never hesitated to join the Army after High School."
Johnson, as a leader of soldiers, also said he also likes to help others.
"I like being able to help others develop in their careers an in their lives, and I like being able to provide leadership and mentorship to them," said Johnson.
