Peshmerga soldiers at four training centers across the Kurdistan region of Iraq celebrated graduation on Aug. 29, 2019. Among the graduates were 22 soldiers who completed the new Master Instructor Course, certifying them to train future instructors within the Kurdistan Security Forces. The course, known as “T5,” qualifies the soldiers to train future instructors within the Peshmerga forces, an important step towards the goal of a self-sufficient training program.

The day marked the completion of the fourth training rotation of the year for the Kurdistan Training Coordination Center (KTCC). The KTCC oversees the Coalition-led training at the Atrush, Bnaslawa, Manila and Sulaymanyia Training Centers.

In total, 1,590 Peshmerga soldiers graduated from training in Wide Area Security infantry tactics, to include four newly minted instructors for the Medic, Marksmanship and CBRNE courses.

To date, 44,188 members of the Kurdish security forces have been trained through basic and advanced infantry courses since the KTCC was created in 2015. Many of the courses employ a “train-the-trainers” approach to instruction in order to expand their capabilities. The training aims to refine the tactics and techniques of ground movement, provide first-aid, respond to chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear threats, and to defeat the risks derived from improvised explosive devices.

Coalition forces are in Iraq at the invitation of the Government of Iraq to train and advise in support of the enduring mission to defeat Daesh.
