Brig. Gen. Alex Fink, outgoing commander of the U.S. Army Reserve 4th Sustainment Command (Expeditionary), relinquished command to Col. Julianne LeFevre, incoming commander, here, during a ceremony on August 2, 2019.
The ceremony marks the end of Fink’s three years commanding the 4th ESC where he focused heavily on meeting the Army Reserve’s push for unit readiness. During the ceremony, Maj. Gen. Eugene LeBoeuf, commanding general of the U.S. Army Reserve 79th Theater Support Command, said Fink’s diligence resulted the 4th ESC having the highest readiness rate among all of the 79th TSC units.
Standing before the assembled troops, Fink took a moment to address the crowd and thanked his troops for their hard work. He spoke about how proud he was of what the units had accomplished.
“This has been an incredible opportunity to be around some of the greatest soldiers in the world,” said Fink.
With the 4th ESC’s units geographically spread out across Texas, Arkansas, Oklahoma, New Mexico and Louisiana, Fink had many opportunities to visit the Soldiers in the field during training. He focused on spending time with his battalion and company level leaders offering mentorship and guidance. Fink said what was most important was supporting command teams with the resources, guidance and counseling they need to be successful in their mission.
“It is the companies and battalions that make things happen,” said Fink. “As leaders we are serving them.”
Since receiving his commission through the University of Missouri Army ROTC program in 1990, Fink has served in a variety of leadership roles at all levels. For Army senior leaders like Fink, the opportunity to command troops not only provides the chance to teach junior leaders, but also allows for personal growth and learning. Fink said the best part of his command time was learning the importance of making every day count.
“Every day is an opportunity to advance our mission and make it matter,” said Fink. “One day, we will all hang up our uniform and at some point we will wish we could have that one day back.”
Fink is not hanging up his uniform yet. As he leaves the 4th ESC, he is transitioning to an active duty assignment as the chief of Army Enterprise Marketing.
“I will be moving to Chicago where we will be standing up a new office that will be in charge of the Army’s marketing efforts in support of accessions of new soldiers,” said Fink.
As Fink departs, he leaves the 4th ESC to LeFevre who intends to continue carrying out his vision of readiness for the unit. LeFevre said she was impressed with the leaders, NCOs and Soldiers of the 4th ESC and looks forward to working with them.
“Everybody is so professional; they know what their job is,” said LeFevre. “It is phenomenal to see how good they are.”

The 4th Sustainment Command (Expeditionary) is part of the 79th Theater Sustainment Command. The 4th ESC has units throughout Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas.
