ANTHEM, Ariz. – Phoenix North ‘Rattlers’ Recruiting Company honored 100 Future Soldiers on Armed Forces Day, at a Community Salutes ceremony, Boulder Creek High School, May 20, Anthem, Ariz.

The event recognized high school seniors who have made a commitment to joining the U.S. Army, with those honored coming from local cities such as Anthem, Flagstaff, Black Canyon, Prescott and Paradise Valley.

The event was attended by local dignitaries, including Mayor of Prescott Harry Oberg, a retired Army colonel and Purple Heart recipient from the Vietnam War, Flagstaff Councilman Jim McCarthy, Anthem Community Councilman Roger Wills, Paradise Valley Council Member Julie Pace and Arizona House Representative Richard Andrade.

Also attending the event was Capt. Matthew Peterson, company commander, Phoenix North Rec. Co., who praised the Future Soldiers for making the decision to enlist.

“Whether you serve 2 years or 30 years, the experience will make you a better person and a better citizen in society,” Peterson said. “The skills and lessons learned are priceless and the speed of maturity is fast as you will be continually challenged and pushed to your limits.”

Only 3 of 10 high school students qualify, morally, medically, and physically, to join the Army, he continued.

“We only want one of them - and that one, is you,” Peterson said. “Our Recruiters spend countless hours investing their time and effort to ensure that our applicants and Future Soldiers are given the red carpet treatment as you start your career in the Army.”

“You will become part of the less than 1% of active duty Army that currently serve out of over 300 million Americans,” he added. “You will become more than defenders, you will become disciplined professionals and highly skilled and trained individuals ready to accomplish any mission or life task.”

“Let us celebrate the beginning of this journey with you,” Peterson concluded.

Each Future Soldier was presented an Army Stole from their respective representative and also received a Certificate of Appreciation signed by all of the community representatives, along with a Phoenix North challenge coin.
